Questions before you start

Should I keep the bath or replace it with a shower?

The best choice depends on how you use the room and your longer-term plans. A bath may be useful for a family with young children, especially if it is the only one in the home. If you rarely use yours, a shower may make better use of the space and offer easier access. If you plan to sell soon, consider who is likely to buy the property as well as your own needs. We can discuss both layouts before you decide.

Marble, ceramic or porcelain tiles: which should I choose?

Porcelain is often my first choice for its durability and practicality, but I work with ceramic tiles, marble and other natural stone too. The right choice depends on where the tiles will be used, the finish you want and the care they need. For floors, we also consider grip and suitability for the room. Good results depend on choosing a suitable material and installing it correctly.

Can we change the layout?

Usually, yes, provided the space and existing structure allow it and the new layout is practical to use. Drainage, pipe routes, electrics and the room’s dimensions all influence what is possible. I assess these before explaining the options and agreeing the design.

Can I add a cloakroom or bathroom away from the main waste pipe?

Sometimes. Where normal gravity drainage is impractical, a suitable macerator and pump system may be an option. It breaks down toilet waste and pumps it through smaller pipes to a suitable connection with the main foul-water drainage. It still needs a viable pipe route, power and access for maintenance. I check the proposed location and system requirements before confirming what is possible.
